I was invited along to a drift day at the lovely Oulton Park circuit located near Cheshire, I would be a passenger on the day and a spectator so I decided to take my Nikon along and experiment with some motor sport action style shots. Luckily for April the weather remained dry and we got plenty of sun with a few cloud patches which always cause me a headache with the white balance and shooting on manual means some on the fly adjustments were required.
My friend was driving his Honda S2000 which I have photographed several times before which you can see on my previous blog posts. Not a particularly easy car to drift my friend did really well for his first time and it came quite naturally to him after a few hours of practice.
I managed to grab a couple of panning shots on the circuit as well as I had the opportunity to roam freely around the circuit.
The surface at the Oulton Park drift circuit is unique as it is also used for rally driving skills. The road surface is highly polished which creates an extremely smooth and shiny finish meaning it is very low grip. This enables the car to lose traction at low speeds so you can get comfortable with how the car behaves when sliding and breaking free.
